The Conwy Valley Railway Museum is a small but enthusiastically curated collection of railway artefacts, models, and memorabilia, located in the old goods shed adjacent to Betws-y-Coed railway station. It provides an engaging supplement to a visit to the station and a good introduction to the history of the Conwy Valley line.
The Collection
The museum contains a range of exhibits covering the history of the Conwy Valley Railway from its opening in 1868 to the present day. Exhibits include historic photographs, station equipment, uniforms, timetables, and signalling paraphernalia. A particular attraction is the extensive collection of model railways — both static displays and working layouts that operate on request.
The Model Shop
Attached to the museum is a model railway shop carrying a good stock of locomotives, rolling stock, track, and accessories across the main scales. The shop caters to collectors and enthusiasts and also sells books on Welsh railways and local history. It is one of the better specialist model railway shops in north Wales.
Visiting
The museum is open seasonally — check ahead for current opening times. A small admission charge applies. The museum is directly beside the platform at Betws-y-Coed station and can be combined with a ride on the Conwy Valley Railway. It is particularly suitable for families with children who have an interest in trains.
