Blas Ar Fwyd

Blas Ar Fwyd

Blas ar Fwyd — the name means “taste of food” in Welsh — is a renowned deli, food shop, and cafe in the market town of Llanrwst, five miles north of Betws-y-Coed on the A470. It is one of the best-regarded food destinations in north Wales, known for its selection of Welsh and locally-sourced produce.

The Shop

The shop stocks an excellent range of Welsh cheeses, cured meats, preserves, artisan breads, and specialty foods. Much of the produce is sourced from local and Welsh producers, and the emphasis is firmly on quality, provenance, and Welsh food culture. The deli counter changes seasonally and reflects what is available from the surrounding area. It is an ideal stop for self-catering visitors or those looking to put together a picnic for a day in the mountains.

The Cafe

An attached cafe serves breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea using ingredients from the shop. The menu draws on Welsh culinary traditions as well as more contemporary approaches to local produce. It has become something of a destination in its own right for food-conscious visitors to the area.

Location

Llanrwst is five miles north of Betws-y-Coed on the A470, a straightforward drive or — better — accessible on the Conwy Valley Railway which stops at Llanrwst station. The town also has the medieval stone bridge and the Tu Hwnt i’r Bont tea room, making a short excursion from Betws-y-Coed very worthwhile.
